Structured Poems

What imaginations and creative use of words! The poems shared in class were *wonderful*!!

Since I have these two poets here with me, and have asked their permission, I shall post a couple of their poems shared in class.

Jeans

by L.S.

moving, flowing, cheering
violins, flutes, guitars, drums
screaming, singing, jumping

by S.S.

chocolate

LIMERICK

My history book is a bore
reading it has become quite a chore
it once was great fun,
but that fun is done.
I shall now throw my book on the floor!
by S.S.

There once was a young girl named Nory
who said, "All my poems sound poorly.
I'm quite in a rut-
my question is what
shall I do so my poems aren't corny!"

another smashing poem

Hello

Here is another poem by the illustrious classmate who wrote the one posted below:

Oh, Land of All My Heart’s Desire- by D.D

Oh, California, in the thoughts of my heart,

I long to be able to see your land,

And with my hand

To feel the sand

And watch the rolling waters.

To gaze at your purple mountains tall,

To climb them all,

To feel the breeze

And sense the peace

Of being there- home.

And seeing my friends

Of days long ago,

And talking of no end

Of the fun and the joy

I had when with my friends.

But alas, now,

Here is where I am now.

I must be content

And wait till the time-

Till I once again, see your land, and your people.

Poems for pondering

Hello all

This is a lovely poem submitted and written by one of our fine classmates:

Joy- by D.D.

Joy is in my life today,

The Spirit lives in me.

He washed all of my sins away

And came to dwell in me.

I’m grateful for what He has done;

His praises I will sing.
The fruit my life shows of God’s Son

Is the greatest thing.

Others see it in my life

And want it in their own,

So I tell them how they too can find

A joy-filled life now born.

It’s not temporary as happiness is,

But life-long and forever.

The joy this is that Jesus gives

Will leave me, never, never.

Politeness Policy... Please Peruse Politely :0)

Greetings, fellow poets!

Alas, my duties in the home have kept me from Pooh's Corner far too long. 'Tis a shame that in the midst of all this explosion of technology, that someone has not figured a way to link thought with technology...along the lines of a Vulcan mind-meld (for any Star Trek fans out there) or a "Quick-quotes" quill :0) That way, as I cook supper, run errands, shop for groceries, pump gas, etc., I can simultaneously add new posts to the blog! Without being in front of the computer!!

As my "Blog-master" and I learn our way around this new form of communication, we will be tweaking the blog site a little here and there. Our latest "tweaking" is in the submission of posts. Before you are able to have your comments posted, you must send me an email telling me who you are and what your *screen name* is going to be. No comments shall be posted until I know who it is that I am talking with!! :0) I'm just a little funny that way!! NOTE:
send the info to my email in the S.O.G. directory

Our second *tweak* is that all comments will be moderated before posting them to the site. Unfortunately, we have had someone who crossed the line of POLITE conversation. You may want to recall these words..."And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Col. 3:17 niv The truth of scripture extends through out *all* aspects of our lives...even posts on a blog site.

I'll close this post with the following ...
"Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers." Eph. 4:29 In our case, it could read; let no corrupt word flow from your fingertips to the screen that does not edify or bring grace to your readers!

first posting

"Are you afraid of poetry? Have you been attacked by a terror dactyl?
Are you spooked by spores of spondee?
Then you've come to the write place!
Does the Illiad make you feel ill? Does the Odyssey strike you as odd?
Then you've come to the write place!
Have you lost your poetic license? Have you been fined $50 for
alliteration in front of your building?
Then you've come to the write place!
The poetry place. Where you can outdo your onomatapeers and sail
to an Imagi-nation."
-Douglas Florian

Greetings fellow poets!

Welcome to the first posting on our illustrious blog! Feel free to leave comments and participate -politely-in any discussions sparked by this blog.

Poetry...words...language...thoughts...emotions...are all a gift from God. I look forward to delving further into the wild and woolly world of poetry. (did you catch the alliteration!)

HOMEWORK: Complete the *Brainstorm*page sent home today.

***Also, begin to type out the poems you have chosen to read aloud to the class, there should be two so far. (They can fit on the same page if you would like.) Be sure to include the title and the author :0) Check with your parents for the next step. If it is ok with your parents, print out 15 copies of your poems. These will be shared with fellow poets in our class to make our own Anthology of Poetry! Ahhh! I can feel the excitement flowing through the air as you read this!!

Patrick and Rachael, your first two poems were wonderful...and long. If you would like to type out the "best parts", that would be fine.

If time permits in your family, bring the copies in next week.
